Our Firm

Michelle M. Hughes established her own law firm, the Law Offices of Michelle M. Hughes, P.C. over 20 years ago. Her legal practice focuses primarily on family building both in adoption, (working with private agency, DCFS,  independent adoption, co-parent adoption and related adoption) and assisted reproductive technology.  She also does real estate and corporate contractual work.

In adoption, the firm represents adoptive parents, foster parents, birth parents, and adoption professionals including agencies. 

She is a fellow of the  Academy of Adoption and Assisted Reproduction Attorneys; member of the Chicago Bar Association adoption committee (Chair 2011-2012); former co-chair of  Confidentiality Intermediate advisory committee for the Illinois Department of Children and Family Services as well as  Former Vice Chair of Cook County Bar Association Adoption Committee.

Michelle has been been quoted regularly in newspapers and magazines and has been featured on various radio and TV programs concerning issues of adoption, transracial adoption and biracial identity. She is a regular speaker for many adoption educational conferences nationwide, adoption camps,  and has testified before the Illinois legislature.
